Welcome to Volume 2 Number 27 of this E-Newsletter.
There is still one resolution remaining from Synod Assembly. However, again this week there are way too many things going on in our world and church life for us to dwell on what we talked about in a conference room in Eugene over a month ago. I am filled with grief today as there are more attacks on the innocent around the world especially in places like Bagdad and Medina, I am filled with grief over the death of yet another person, Alton Sterling, at the hands of the police, and much closer to home after the death of our dear brother Don Draper.
I find myself today joining with the laments of past generations, I find myself using the words of Psalm 137 "By the rivers of Babylon, There we sat down and wept, When we remembered Zion. " I find my heart heavy after losing a dear friend Don Draper. It is not easy to just move on or pass it off as common place. There is something to be said about not rushing to the next thing and allow ourselves to be present in the place we are. If you are anything like me you will want to move or shy away from the pain and the hurt because it is just too real and raw to deal with. If however, you allow yourself to lean into that place I feel that is where we truely experience God's grace for us, a fallen humanity. If we allow ourselves we can experience God's love for us in our brokenness and pain. We can catch just the smallest glimpse of God's presence with us in our grief.
As we pivot towards the future we once again hear the calling from God to let our light shine in the darkness, to bear fruit and to preach hope over hate. Upcoming here in the community are ways in-which we can do that. Next week we are participating with Moreland Presbyterian and Holy Family in a community Vacation Bible School where we are not occupying kids and keeping them busy but we are raising them up to be leaders in our community and world. Here at Holy Trinity we are having our Sunday School this coming Sunday and we are also welcoming in new members. It is in the way we live and dwell with one another, how we approach each other with love and grace that we learn God's calling for our lives.

There are some Lutheran community organizers looking to get to know SE Portland and do some work around concerns in the community. So set that browser to good search and select Holy Trinity and get searching.
We have been invited on the second Friday of every month to join for worship with the saints at Our Lady of Sorrows Church here in Woodstock. At 7pm on those Fridays they gather for a Taize Service. Taize is an ecumenical community in France that has developed a method of prayer that combines music, prayer and silence. It is a beautiful service and something that cannot be related in words but needs to be experienced. If you are looking for a new worship opportunity you should check it out.
