Holy Trinity E-Newsletter V2 #16 4/20/16

Welcome to Volume 2 Number 16 of this E-Newsletter.

This coming Sunday we have one of the readings that jumps off the page from the Book of Acts. It is the story of Peter on the roof of Cornelius's house praying. Interrupting his prays are a vision of this sheet coming down from heaven with all types of animals on it. Peter is called to kill and eat, however he protests because the food is unclean. However, the call from God continues to tell him to not declare unclean what God has made clean.

This is a very significant moment in the Gospel coming to the Gentiles. No longer is there this division made between what is clean and unclean when it comes to food. However it extends farther than that, it is not just food but for all of humanity. No longer is Gentile or the other unclear but all have been redeemed and this Good News is for all.

A colleague the other day poised this thought that I had not considered before. In the early days of the church, the one we see in the Book of Acts. There are people like Peter who make it possible for the Gospel to be spread to new corners of the earth. This includes what we now know of today as Europe, Africa, and Asia. Without this radical inclusion of Gentiles and others the Good News would not have reached the World.

For many of us we claim our ancestry as European or Algo-Saxon, so with Peter's inclusion of Gentile we are a part of the faith. The question then I am left with is who are we not including today and deeming unclean?
