Welcome to Volume 2 Number 28 of this E-Newsletter.
Grace, Mercy and Peace from our Risen Savior.
"Let the little children come..."(Mt. 19:14) This week is Vacation Bible School week here in SE Portland. It has been an incredible week thus far! Holy Family, Moreland Presbyterian, St. Agatha's and Holy Trinity all come together to have VBS each summer. Holy Family hosts it each year and it is a wonderful outreach to the community. The place is crawling with kids from all over and it is great fun.
There is something about the faith of a child that is remarkable and something that we can learn. One time someone told me that we are to have childlike faith and not childish faith. Every time I am around a child I am reminded of what that looks like. It is a faith that is loving and accepting, one that is curious while cautious and one that is not afraid to speak up and out. They are a constant reminder of who we are called to be.
I have never been a fan of the cliche "Children are the future of the church" however, a more accurate statement is almost becoming a cliche itself "Children are the church, today." However, there is still a great deal of truth to that. It is true for not just the church but the community as well. Children cannot be pushed off into the future but needs to be our focus today, they are the ones that are reminding us of our faith and what it should be. They are the ones that are speaking words of truth, love and acceptance. They remind us of the joy and beauty in the world and of our faith.
I would encourage you all to seek out a kid in your life and spend time with them. Remind them that they are loved, that they have good ideas, and that they are the ones shaping the world and it is up to them to decide what form this world will take.

Looking for blood donors. There are two opportunities to donate blood coming up at the end of July. July 25-28 there is a drive at PSU and then on July 26-30th there is a drive in North Portland. They are always needing more donors.
Looking for childcare or know anyone who is? I have recently become acquainted with a young woman who is moving to Portland this fall. Kara Bonn is moving to Portland to continue her education in the Montessori System, she sounds like a wonderful young woman with some amazing references. While in school she is interested in working with children and families, so if you know anyone looking for some childcare assistance contact the church office.
There are some Lutheran community organizers looking to get to know SE Portland and do some work around concerns in the community. If you are interested in the future of our corner of Portland and want to chat with them they would love to hear about your passions and desires for Portland. Let Andrew know if you are interested in chatting with them.
Thrivant and Habitat have come together for some Habitat for Humanity build days this fall. So mark your calendars for October 29th, Nov. 10th and 19th to get your hands dirty and work on some houses. Kim Ierien is bringing a group from her work on Nov. 10th if you want to join her. If you are like me and do searching for things on the internet do I have a thing for you. I have gotten Holy Trinity set up with Goodsearch.com. It is an online search engine that is powered by yahoo and every time you use it search engine it donates to a charity of your choice, in our situation that is Holy Trinity. So set that browser to good search and select Holy Trinity and get searching.
We have been invited on the second Friday of every month to join for worship with the saints at Our Lady of Sorrows Church here in Woodstock. At 7pm on those Fridays they gather for a Taize Service. Taize is an ecumenical community in France that has developed a method of prayer that combines music, prayer and silence. It is a beautiful service and something that cannot be related in words but needs to be experienced. If you are looking for a new worship opportunity you should check it out.
Summer is here! So join Pastor Andrew on Wednesday to walk around the neighborhood. We will be meeting at 2:30 at the church and set off for a stroll around the neighborhood.
