Holy Trinity E-Newsletter V2 #29 7/20/16

Welcome to Volume 2 Number 29 of this E-Newsletter.

Grace, Mercy and Peace from our Risen Savior.

This coming Sunday, our Gospel reading contains a prayer that you might have heard before. In Luke's Gospel when the disciples ask Jesus how to pray we get, what we now refer to as the Lord's Prayer. It is not a pray like this to unlock the locked secret of God but it is a pray like this to continue to develop your relationship with God. When it comes to prayer we might learn more from Luke's Gospel than any of the others.

In Luke's Gospel prayer is a part of the daily interaction and work of Jesus in his life and ministry. Prayer is woven into Luke's Gospel, constantly we hear Jesus going off to the side for prayer, or praying before taking action, or teaching us to pray. Because prayer is not like santa clause, you dont ask and get everything your heart desires, rather prayer is more about the relationship work than anything. It is more about the conversation and dialogue than a list of demands. Even Jesus demonstrates this relationship by the constant conversation He is in with God.

Prayer helps us to fully or more deeply understand who we are being called to be and where we are being called to go. Last Sunday,s Gospel reading about Mary and Martha we talked about the sin of comparison, how we are not called to fell the need to desire to be like anyone else or to try and emulate another life. Rather, we are called to be the beautiful loved creations that God made us to be. Prayer is just one of the way, maybe the most important way, for us to learn just how to do that and to be the creation that God made and loves.

If you are like me and do searching for things on the internet do I have a thing for you. I have gotten Holy Trinity set up with Goodsearch.com. It is an online search engine that is powered by yahoo and every time you use it search engine it donates to a charity of your choice, in our situation that is Holy Trinity. So set that browser to good search and select Holy Trinity and get searching.

We have been invited on the second Friday of every month to join for worship with the saints at Our Lady of Sorrows Church here in Woodstock. At 7pm on those Fridays they gather for a Taize Service. Taize is an ecumenical community in France that has developed a method of prayer that combines music, prayer and silence. It is a beautiful service and something that cannot be related in words but needs to be experienced. If you are looking for a new worship opportunity you should check it out.
