Welcome to Volume 3 Number 9 of this E-Newsletter.
Grace, Mercy and Peace from our Risen Savior.
March 8th is recognized around the world as being International Woman's Day. A day where we stop and recognize the role of woman in not just our personal lives but all of society across international boundaries as well. As with many days of remembrance like today, this should be something we recognize everyday but it is a time to make a special recognition of woman in our world.
To borrow the words from ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton:
"We are called to honor women not only on this day, but also in our daily vocation as church. In speaking of the body of Christ, Paul reminds us in his letter to the Corinthians: "If one member suffers, all suffer together with it; if one member is honored, all rejoice together with it" (1 Corinthians 12:26). Therefore, on this International Women's Day, we celebrate and support the God-given gifts of women and recommit ourselves to seek justice for women who are suffering in our midst and in communities around the world."
The ELCA has been shifting a focus towards justice related work for woman in our society and church. Holy Trinity along with St. Paul and St. Mark's has been working together on the ELCA's new Social Statement "Faith, Sexism and Justice" which are materials addressing the violence and sexism targeted at females in society. It is a challenge to stop and consider how both our church and society thinks, speaks and acts towards woman and justice.
Secondly the ELCA has been doing work towards leadership development for emerging female leadership in our world. The ELCA has joined in a partnership calledthe International Women Leaders initiative to encourage education as a support network for emerging female leaders in church and society.
You can read more about both efforts here. But more importantly today, take time to hear the stories of important woman in you life, remember them in your prayers, educate yourself in female related justice issues, and make sure the people in your life that you love know that they are loved today.
**I am always interested in discussing issues and current events with anyone so please feel free to contact me for conversation.

In March we are going to be chatting a bit about the divide occurring in traditionally "Red" states with "Blue" cities inside of them. If you have a topic for a future week you would like to discuss let the church office know.

Winter Clothes Needed- Warm jackets, hats, gloves, sports bras, thick socks, and scarves are needed for people who are part of the Re-entry program at the Clark County Jail. You can help show Gods merciful love to hurting people who are being released from jail often to the streets to be homeless. Be part of a success story. Your donation will give a person warmth, safety, hope, and dignity as they try and rebuild their lives. Donations can be brought to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Let's help people start their journey with a gift from the Lord.
Prayer List- We have thinned out our prayer list but do not mean to take people off that still need to be on the list, so please let the church off know if we took anyone off in haste.
Acoustic Worship- On March 19th we are going to be trying something new in worship here at Holy Trinity. We are going to be worshiping in a few fashion. Wendell and Pastor Andrew have been working on an acoustic and more contemporary worship lead by Wendell on the piano and Pastor Andrew on guitar. There are some Lutheran community organizers looking to get to know SE Portland and do some work around concerns in the community. If you are interested in the future of our corner of Portland and want to chat with them they would love to hear about your passions and desires for Portland. Let Andrew know if you are interested in chatting with them.
We have been invited on the second Friday of every month to join for worship with the saints at Our Lady of Sorrows Church here in Woodstock. At 7pm on those Fridays they gather for a Taize Service. Taize is an ecumenical community in France that has developed a method of prayer that combines music, prayer and silence. It is a beautiful service and something that cannot be related in words but needs to be experienced. If you are looking for a new worship opportunity you should check it out.
Holy Trinity's Little Library- Thanks to Keith our Little Library is now complete and up on the fence! It is located on Ogden Street right off of 39th. So if you need a book or have a few to donate swing on by.
