Holy Trinity E-Newsletter V3 #43 11/16/17

Welcome to Volume 3 Number 43 of this E-Newsletter.

Grace, Mercy and Peace from our Risen Savior.

Greetings all, I have just returned from three wonderful, spirit-filled days of First Call Theological Education with fellows pastors, deacons and more at Seabeck Conference Center.  The family and I are prepping to head east for Thanksgiving so it is a whirlwind of a week.  I wanted to leave you with a few events that are upcoming.

A big thank you to everyone who helped out with the workday this past weekend, I think we got some great work done around the church!

This coming Sunday Rev. Dave Wilder will be bringing us the Good News, he is on staff at St. Luke's Lutheran in SW.  So let's be sure to welcome him.

Sunday Evening we have been invited to join Oh For Christ Sake (Reed Campus Ministry) and the Flame for a Thanksgiving celebration.  The gathering is from 5-8pm, here is an invitation from the organizer.

Oh For Christ's Sake is the Christian club at Reed, and we'll be hosting a community Thanksgiving for all who wish to come. You do not need to be a member of any church or faith affiliation in order to attend. Some community members from churches in the greater Portland area will be attending this event as well. We will be praying a blessing over the meal, but you absolutely do not have to participate. We hope to see you there. Bring your friends! Vegan options available.

Nov. 22nd at St. Mark's Lutheran is their Thanksgiving Eve Pie Fest the event starts at 7pm and sounds like a fantastic time!  I have attached a flier to this email with the details.

Sunday Nov. 26th we will be gathering at 5pm for our Supper Club, so there will be a meal starting at 5 which anyone is invited to bring something to share and then afterwards we will move to the sanctuary for Holden Evening Prayer.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving everyone!

Christmas- It is never too early to talk about Christmas right?  We will be decorating the Church on December 9th to prepare for holidays.  Christmas Eve this year falls on a Sunday, so we will be worshiping Sunday morning at our usual 9:30 time with a service of Lessons and Carols, then later that evening at 10pm we will have our Christmas Eve service.

Clothes Needed- Clothes for the summer months, especially shoes are needed for people who are part of the Re-entry program at the Clark County Jail. You can help show Gods merciful love to hurting people who are being released from jail often to the streets to be homeless.  Be part of a success story.  Your donation will give a person warmth, safety, hope, and dignity as they try and rebuild their lives. Donations can be brought to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.  Let's help people start their journey with a gift from the Lord.

Bible Study on Matthew- Our Gospel readings this year comes from the Gospel of Matthew, so why not take a deeper dive into the book.  Join us Tuesday mornings at 10 here at Holy Trinity for a study on Matthews Gospel.  We will join together in prayer, conversation, scripture and fellowship during our time together.  This will be an 8 session course, which you can attend as you are able our next gathering will be on Nov. 28th, Dec. 12th and 19th.

We have been invited on the second Friday of every month to join for worship with the saints at Our Lady of Sorrows Church here in Woodstock.  At 7pm on those Fridays they gather for a Taize Service.  Taize is an ecumenical community in France that has developed a method of prayer that combines music, prayer and silence.  It is a beautiful service and something that cannot be related in words but needs to be experienced.  If you are looking for a new worship opportunity you should check it out.
