Holy Trinity E-Newsletter V2 #46 11/17/16

Welcome to Volume 2 Number 46 of this E-Newsletter.
Grace, Mercy and Peace from our Risen Savior.

I have just returned from my First Call Theological Education event, it is kinda a orientation or check-in with new pastors by the Bishops of our Region to see how things are going.  It was a time for conversation, education, worship, prayer and fellowship.  It was incredibly fruitful and some much needed time away and I am very grateful for the time away.

I am always reminded at events like this of the varied and wide range of gifts that we have in the church.  I am reminded of how we are a part of such a bigger tapestry of the faith that is acted out in my man different ways.  I am reminded of the joys and challenges of our lives of faith and how hard it is to work together.

We heard about the latest ecumenical conversations between the ELCA and other church bodies.  It was incredibly exciting to hear that the work we do with our partners begins not with what divides us as believers but rather what we agree on and what unites us.  This leaves us with the reminder that what unites, the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, is the strongest unifying thing in the world and that we as brothers and sisters in Christ, are called to rally around that rather than the powers of this world.

Prayer Requests: Shirley P., Andrea, Fern, Alice, Dorothy F, Pastor Janell, Rev. New We are forming our budget committee to start planning for next year!  So if you would like to be a part of this process let the Church Office know.

New We will be worshiping on Christmas Eve at 10pm, it will be a service of music, liturgy and candle-lighting to celebrate the birth of the Savior of the World.  We also be worshiping Christmas Day (it's a Sunday this year) at our usual 9:30 time.  We will be celebrating with the service of lessons and carols.

Our Sunday School is officially back and off to a great start!  One Sunday a month we will have an extra focus on Christian Education.  Our Church in Action Children's Program will be integrated with our Sunday Worship.  Be sure to be here on Nov. 20th for our next Sunday School.

There are some Lutheran community organizers looking to get to know SE Portland and do some work around concerns in the community.  If you are interested in the future of our corner of Portland and want to chat with them they would love to hear about your passions and desires for Portland.  Let Andrew know if you are interested in chatting with them.

We have dates set for Sunday School for the rest of the year.  So mark your calendars for Nov 20 and Dec 11.  Look for a flyer coming soon to share with your family and friends!

Fall is now!  So join Pastor Andrew on Wednesday to walk around the neighborhood.  We will be meeting at 2:30 at the church and set off for a stroll around the neighborhood.

We have been invited on the second Friday of every month to join for worship with the saints at Our Lady of Sorrows Church here in Woodstock.  At 7pm on those Fridays they gather for a Taize Service.  Taize is an ecumenical community in France that has developed a method of prayer that combines music, prayer and silence.  It is a beautiful service and something that cannot be related in words but needs to be experienced.  If you are looking for a new worship opportunity you should check it out.

Holy Trinity's Little Library- Thanks to Keith our Little Library is now complete and up on the fence!  It is located on Ogden Street right off of 39th.  So if you need a book or have a few to donate swing on by.
